1986. This paper refers to a geotechnical survey curried out at a 1:10.000 scale of a very relevant zone within the whole Caracas Metropolitan Area, with the aim of providing new solutions for geotechnical problems. The integration of various professionals, such as geographer, geologist and civil engineer has made possible a deeper analysis of the fundamental and necessary aspects for reaching realizable results. The methodology used presents one of the most relevant aspects, since it uses different parameters that really play a basic role in stability problems and that can reach its best expression in geotechnical survey of great detail. Tha basic parameters analyzed have been: lithology, structure, clinometry, geomorphology and hidrology, with their own sub-parameters such as weathering, plant cover, human activity, slope exposure, etc., and for each of them a thematic map and its legend have been made. As a result, the interaction of lithology, geomorphology and hidrology with their own sub-parameters yields a geotechnical macrozoning map that highlights very broad zones and with alike behavior among them. On the other hand, the interation of clinometry, structure, talus geometrical stability and its orientation with their respective sub-parameters, yields a geotechnical micro-zoning map that delimits more reduced zones similar to the macro-zoning map. The juction of two diagnostics (macro and micro)represents the total "Geotechnical Orientation Map" (AU).
